Joe Biden was announced as the 46th President of the United States of America today. But wait the electoral votes haven’t been made or determined. Why does America go through the same stupidity just over how the voting process is made every four years? Will anyone notice that President Trump has reactivated Death Row executions before he leaves office? Talk about expendable humans lives wasted. My next door neighbor just congratulated me out of jo where. Had he not called me Carol I could have focused on his thoughts that I should be in some celebratory mood. I corrected the abbreviation of my name and I inquired as to what/why he was congratulating me. He said, “I assumed you voted for Biden.” I responded that I don’t speak or represent political parties. And I confirmed it is probably better not to assume anything ever.
I left my block and went on a little morning stroll taking a path down Derby Street headed towards San Pablo Avenue. As I made my way silently focusing upon myself a male and female couple started waving very excited and yelling at me. The woman literally was pointing her index finger saying you yes you over there congratulations Joe Biden is our President. As I placed my hands towards my chest emphasizing myself I explained to them that no President has ever made things better for black people. I furthered the convo stating I would be turning a blind eye to History to think a presidential election benefited me. And I was clear asserting that they didn’t have to know their History. No Presidential term has improved my life. In fact reviewing the eight years Obama was in office I feel like my memory was stripped of all vital information.
If it wasn’t for Facebook I wouldn’t remember anything worthwhile that I did because I feel like his terms took something from me. I believe my dignity was compromised by President Obama. It is that simple because since he was in office white people have escalated saying the worst most blindly racist things while assuming they weren’t racist at all. This reference to white is referencing paper & money not skin tones. Racism is considered a hard patch of life by those who don’t experience it hence the grass is greener viewing others well watered wealth that is generational. They assume an apology means they hold concern and that removes all or any responsibility. Given this difficult spot positioning it is assumed that black people are suppose to endure the trauma and drama until we find our security being useless as nothing.
The United States of America as a government entity is suppose to protect all the people. But the truth is the laws are structured only protecting corporations and maintenance keeping the rich wealth while the poorest are divested using inadequacies.
As I followed my route down San Pablo Avenue headed towards University Avenue many drivers were excited honking randomly. One couple stood out in particular to me the man drove while his female passenger had a pot and wooden spoon that she was beating while screaming woo whose. The only thing I could think was it must be nice to have enough money to ignore actual History because the car’s plates were from New Jersey. In my mind jersey loops are how folks have skipped over the hottest difficulties weaving potholders.
The image shown is a modified version of collage artist Romare Bearden’s Berkeley- The City and Its People. This is the largest piece made during his life and this artwork is the origins of the City’s logo. I felt the need to update this work because it maps the local area. The upper field of the original artwork had the old Bay Bridge. Seeing the Bridge was replaced and the original is composed of black and white photos I felt this color panoramic photo fit perfectly emphasizing that Black People know how to keep our ducks in a row.
